Welcome to Oak Grove!
At Oak Grove, class sizes are limited to ensure a quality classroom experience and individual attention – no one is ever lost in the crowd. The average classroom consists of 17 students (K-12) and Oak Grove’s overall student-to-teacher ratio is 12:1. The typical class size is 20 students. Oak Grove’s graduating class sizes are typically between 50-60 students, creating the small school feel in a large town. At the middle school level, grades consist of 40-45 students, promoting relationship-building and friendships.
Our caring, committed and experienced staff encourages students to work hard for academic success. Oak Grove’s middle school teachers are dedicated to seeing each student succeed and prepare for the next stage of life. The faculty meets daily to plan activities, prepare for homeroom, plan integrated lessons, contact parents and more. Middle School students and faculty members meet in homerooms each week to have devotions, work on class projects, plan activities, learn study skills, and expand their horizons.
Students have the opportunity to be challenged at the academic level at which they are at. With parent involvement, teachers place students in math courses according to where students would be challenged appropriately.
Oak Grove’s middle school curriculum allows students to explore other languages and learn about other cultures. In sixth grade, students have the opportunity to learn the basics of German. In seventh grade, they are introduced to Latin and in eighth, they learn Spanish. Oak Grove students may continue their German and Spanish studies in high school.
We recognize that learning does not have to take place within a classroom. Therefore, each year students take field trips and overnight trips with faculty and parent chaperones for hands-on learning. During the fall, students learn about our region (North Dakota and Minnesota) across the subject areas and then visit a site that ties in with their curriculum. In January, the entire middle school goes on a ski trip, in which students learn or perfect the sport, bond as a class and complete a retreat program. In the spring, each class travels to a different area in the region; the sixth grade class visits Minneapolis, the seventh grade class travels to Duluth, and the eighth grade class crosses the border to the north to see the sites of Winnipeg. These trips are student-planned at each grade level and supported with money from their fundraising efforts.
At the very core of Oak Grove’s mission is the integration of Christian faith and values into the learning experience. Students receive a well-rounded education that not only prepares them academically, but encourages them to grow spiritually. Christian Studies classes, chapel services, and faculty members with a faith commitment add depth to the student experience. Oak Grove students, faculty and staff are encouraged to express their faith and to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of who they are in Christ. Students are encouraged to take an active role in Campus Ministries, presenting in chapel and attending special events. Christian Studies classes teach God’s word with real-life application, emphasizing the importance of Christian character, values and spiritual growth. Reflection leads to discussion, which leads to understanding and a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Christian faith.
The Oak Grove community puts its faith into action by showing concern for those around us. Each year students, faculty and staff devote a great deal of time to service. Middle School students work closely with Eventide residents, meeting with them twice per month for their Christian Studies classes. The Oak Grove-Eventide relationship is more than 25 years strong. Students look forward to their time with the residents and making a difference in their lives. Students also have a global view of service, fund raising for charitable causes like Darfur, Sudan or Hurricane Katrina, collecting goods for Oak Grove’s Mexico Missions, making blankets for local homeless shelters or whatever else they set their minds to.
Multiple opportunities exist for student participation in a wide range of co-curricular activities and athletics. All students are encouraged to take an active role in the school community and find their own special niche. There’s something for everyone at Oak Grove, from music to athletics, from theatre arts to leadership. Middle School students are encouraged to be well-rounded through active participation in music, sports, drama, speech, chess and more. Students do not need to specialize at the Middle School level, they can be involved in all of the available activities.
We are also excited to announce something new...Oak Grove's Health & Wellness Initative.
