Start gathering donations for Oak Grove’s 6th Annual Rummage Sale!

We are one month away from our 6th annual Oak Grove Rummage Sale.  If you are familiar with this event, you know that it has been a huge success.  Over the past 5 years Oak Grove families have raised a total of $100,000 from this sale!  Last year alone we raised over $34,000.00 with 100% of those proceeds going to participating families.

The rummage sale is a fundraiser open to all families of students in grades 6 – 12.
The rummage sale will take place on the following dates at Oak Grove North Campus.  

Tuesday, October 17               8:00 a.m. -  5:00 p.m.       Set up gyms                           
Wednesday, October 18          8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.     Everyone put out items/display.
Thursday, October 19              7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.       Day 1 of Sale
Friday, October  20                  7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.       Day 2 of Sale
                                                     (5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.    ½ price sale (both gyms))
Saturday, October 21               8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.     $10 box sale or $5 paper bag sale
Saturday, October 21               11:00 a.m. – until done.   Pack final items, clean up                                                                                             Thrift stores/charities pick up items  

Each year the rummage sale gets a little bigger and better, and we feel that it has the potential to grow to an even larger scale!

In fact, we want to extend this opportunity to families/students in grades 7 – 12 this year. We understand that with all of the travel opportunities Oak Grove has to offer, some families would appreciate building towards those opportunities at a younger age. 

Here is how it works Participating families are given a code.  Families mark all items with the code and the price. The code is recorded at the time of the sale.  We also receive many general donations. Those proceeds from those donations are split among all participating families. In the past, we have had individual students raise as much as $1,800.00 in one sale!

Even though the sale is months away, NOW is a great time to not only go through your own items, but seek donations from neighbors or friends who are doing spring cleaning, or even hosting their own rummage sales.  For example, last week a friend of mine called because she had just finished a rummage sale and asked if my son wanted to come and pick up the leftover items for the Oak Grove rummage sale!  It was a win-win!  I would encourage you to send out a message to your friends on Facebook, or even drop off a note to families in the area who are doing rummage sales. 

Codes:

If you would like to get a jump on organizing items for the sale, summer might be a good time to start marking your items.  We recommend using masking tape (especially with clothing) or a lighter colored painter’s tape to mark your items.  Other labels tend to fall off.

If you have participated in the rummage sale in the past, you may use the same code you have used in the past.  If you have forgotten that code, please email Bob Noel at bob.noel@oakgrovelutheran.com and a reminder will be sent to you.  If you have never been given a code, or are new to the sale.  Please email Bob Noel and I will send one to you.
