The Speech Team is active in the winter and spring and open to students in grades 7-12. The Oak Grove Speech Team is coached by Kelsey Johnson.

Speech Success
Oak Groves Speech Team is off to a great start with their 2010 season.
At the Valley City Meet on January 16, Hannah Amundson received sixth place in Dramatic and seventh place in Humorous. Rebekka Hughes, Lauren Sandness, Nicole Kippen, and Brandon Horpedahl also performed well at this meet, placing in the top half or higher of their events. Nicole Kippen tied for ninth place in Serious Prose out of 48 speakers and received one "leg" toward All-State Honors. A total of four legs are needed to receive an All-State Honor.
At the West Fargo Meet on January 30, Brittney Schuchard qualified for the state meet in Serious Prose with a second place finish. She also got her first leg for All-State Honors. Rebekka Hughes finished in sixth place in Serious Prose. Colter Schoenfish received Top Novice in Persuasion. Emily Dosch received Top Novice in Storytelling.
At the Carrington meet on February 6, Oak Grove placed fifth as a team out of 17 schools. Brandon Horpedahl qualified for the state meet with a first place finish in Serious Pros and also placed third in Inform. He received another Leg for All-State honors as well. Tony Grosz placed third in Storytelling and also received another Leg for All-State. Rebekka Hughes placed fourth in Persuade and William Kanost placed fifth in Persuade. Colter Schoenfish received Top Novice for Extemporaneous Programmed Reading (EPR) and Persuade.
At the North Sargent Meet on February 13, Brandon Horpedahl placed second in Serious Prose and fourth in Inform. Nicole Kippen placed fourth in Serious Prose and third in Poetry.
On February 15, the middle school Speech Team went to a meet at North Sargent. Emily Dosch placed second in Dramatic and fifth place in Storytelling. Ali Froslie placed third in Persuade. Taylor Welder placed fifth in EPR.
At the Fargo Shanley meet on February 20, Nicole Kippen qualified for the state meet with a second place finish in Poetry. She also placed third in Serious Prose. Brandon Horpedahl placed second in Serious Prose and Brittney Schuchard placed seventh in Serious Prose.
At the Shiloh Christian meet on February 26, Nicole Kippen made the All-State Team by receiving all four required legs. She placed fifth in Serious Duo with Brandon Horpedahl, ninth in Poetry, and eighteenth in Serious Prose. Brandon Horpedahl placed first in Serious Prose, along with his fifth place finish with Nicole Kippen in Serious Duo. Brittney Schuchard placed seventh in Serious Prose. Thaddeus Mayfield placed seventh in Entertain. Hannah Amundson placed tenth in Humorous Interp and tenth in Dramatic. Colter Schoenfish placed sixteenth out of 41 in Storytelling.
At the Fargo South meet on February 27, Brittney Schuchard qualified for the state meet with a first place finish in Serious Prose. She also had a triple tie for eighth place in Humorous Interp.
