Campus Ministry
“Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity”
1Timothy 4:12 · 2008-2009 Theme Verse
On behalf of Campus Ministries, welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! School is fast- approaching and we’re excited. We believe that God has something special in store for the Oak Grove community. We want to be faithful to His call and prayerful that hearts and minds will be impacted by and for Jesus Christ.
Our senior high Peer Ministers have been planning for campus ministry activities and the spiritual leadership that students will provide. This year’s juniors and seniors recognize the spiritual gifts of many of their classmates/schoolmates and invite all to serve according to their areas of giftedness, willingness, and commitment to serve. In other words, you don’t have to have a title to have an active role in campus ministries as a servant leader. Let us know how you feel called to be involved, Grovers!
The Peer Ministers were drawn to the words of 1Timothy 4:12 – “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” – to serve as our theme verse for 2008-2009. There are no age requirements for Kingdom service! What an appropriate verse for a Christian school community to faithfully strive towards.
Oak Grove is excited to have Tony Sayler, a student at Luther Seminary, serving as intern on both of our school campuses for the next school year. Tony will be involved with relational ministries, the promotion of Christian character, worship, and teaching. Rather than adding to current ministry programming, our hope is to have Tony help us enhance what is already in place. Please be in prayer for Tony as he makes the transition to his internship at and with Oak Grove.
We are looking forward to seeing students and parents alike at the MS/HS Opening Convocation in the Scheels Center or the Elementary Back-to-School Night. May God bless the remainder of your summer vacation!

Spiritual Leadership 2008 | This spring, Mr. Noel and a number of juniors began discussions about the direction of campus ministry for next year and the spiritual leadership that students would provide. We are so encouraged that the students want to be actively involved with spiritual leadership on campus, but not in the historical way.
Rather than elect Chapel Board members and have four seniors serving as chaplains, next year’s seniors recognize the spiritual gifts of many of their classmates and have requested that we not use the senior chaplain model. Instead, they have asked for the inclusion of many students according to their areas of giftedness, willingness, and commitment to serve. They have willingly given up the possibility of “title” to fully embrace the “priesthood of all believers.” In other words, you don’t have to have a title to have an active role in campus ministries as a servant leader. |

Recent Ministry News
Homeless & Hungry Posted: Jun 26, 08 | Oak Grove students, staff, and families will once again have the opportunity to participate in “Homeless & Hungry” on October 3-5. This year’s event has grown to include over two dozen F-M churches and schools to date. Each participant is asked to fast for 30 hours, sleep outside in a cardboard box, raise at least $365 (enough money to feed a person for a year), and get at least 10 prayer sponsors.
This year, to help spread the visibility and impact of the event, Oak Grove will be one of many host sites. Registration for the entire event will take place at Oak Grove with the goal to have 1,000 individuals taking part. With the potential growth of this event, planning has started early.
Please consider making this a family event! Click here for more information on the event. Click on the "Participate" link for registration materials. Contact Director of Campus Ministries David Ness at 701.373.7113 with any questions. |
| | This February, with direction from Oak Grove’s Board of Regents, David Ness and Kimberly Forness of Oak Grove and Pastor Paul Nynaas of Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo had the opportunity to travel to Luther Seminary to conduct interviews with potential internship candidates to serve jointly at Hope Lutheran and Oak Grove. We are excited to announce that Tony Sayler will be joining us this August for an exciting year of partnership in ministry. | |
