| CANstruction 2010 |
| On Friday, November 19, Oak Grove held a CANstruction competition for its middle and high school student as a collection incentive for Fill the Dome. Students created a structure in twenty minutes with the non-perishable items their class has collected for Fill the Dome. The classes were judged on creativity, team work and spirit.
Oak Grove’s senior class won the structure competition with their replica of the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

| The National Weather Service lowered its predicted crest of the Red River to 37 feet on Saturday. Oak Grove dike teams continue to patrol campus, monitoring dikes and pumps. Everything is going very smoothly, with no issues arising. |
| March 19 - Dike Teams Start, Crest Lower |
| The National Weather Service lowered the predicted crest of the Red River on Friday, March 19. The river is now to crest on Sunday at 37.5 feet. Oak Grove will begins its 24-hour monitoring of campus at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19 with its Dike Patrol Teams. The teams monitor pumps and dikes on campus and ensure the campus is safe. |
| March 18 - Waters Rise |
| The Red River continues to rise in Fargo. The river is slowly making its way to Oak Grove's floodwalls. The City of Fargo completed the clay dike across South Terrace, making the school ready for the predicted crest of 38 feet. |
| Basketball Pep Rally |
| Oak Grove sent the boys' basketball team off to state with a pep rally in the Scheels Center. The pep band played, the moms did a skit, the students cheer and all attendees prayed over the team. Go Grovers! Good luck at state! |

| Campus preparations continued on Wednesday for the flood of 2010. Students assisted with sandbagging efforts on campus and in the Fargo area. Oak Grove also said goodbye to the boys' basketball team as they departed for the state tournament in Minot. |

| Oak Grove students and staff worked hard on Tuesday, March 16 to create and place sandbags at Oak Grove and in the neighborhood. Around 2,000 bags were made by students and staff and 4,000 were placed at a neighbor's house. |

| On Monday, March 15, Oak Grove administrators began to prepare campus for the flood of 2010. The National Weather Service predicts a crest during the weekend. Floodwaters are already on the football field. The City of Fargo stopped by campus to install the gates in the floodwall as well. |

| Christmas Lunch |
| The faculty and staff of Oak Grove treated the middle and high school on Friday, December 18 with a special Christmas lunch. They served the students turkey, potatoes and gravy, green beans and dessert and waited on them for all their needs. The staff wanted to show their appreciation to the students for all their good works in 2009. |
| Fleece Blankets |
| Oak Grove Lutheran School middle school students tied fleece blankets to give to homeless shelters in the Fargo-Moorhead area on Friday, December 18.
Oak Grove’s 98 middle school students worked in groups to prepare the blankets. The students made approximately 75 blankets, which were given to the YWCA and the Gladys Ray Shelter. Oak Grove’s middle school has traditionally held a gift exchange amongst its students. This is the third year that the students decided to look outward to the needs of the community to give to those who go without.

| Oak Grove Lutheran School’s kindergarten class held an Inventor’s Fair on Thursday, December 17 at Oak Grove’s elementary school. With the help of parents, each kindergarten student made an invention that would make their life easier. Oak Grove has 35 kindergarten students, taught by Mrs. Caspers and Miss Svor.

| Oak Grove's high school students presented their annual Christmas Concert, "My Hope, My Salvation, My All," on December 11. The Concert Band, Chapel Choir, Concert Choir and Carolers all shared the joy of Christmas with the audience. |
| Middle School Christmas Concert |
| Oak Grove's middle school students presented "Heavenly Light" on Friday, December 11, their annual Christmas Concert. The concert included performances from the sixth grade choir, middle school guys choir, middle school girls choir and the honor choir. The entire middle school also recited Luke 2 in unison from memory. |
| Middle School Camp Emmaus Trip |
| In September, Oak Grove's sixth through eighth graders traveled to Camp Emmaus, a Bible camp just outside of Menahga, Minn., for a time to develop friendships, work together as a team, learn to accomplish new tasks, and complete a service project. The retreat emphasized the theme in
1 Corinthians 12:12-31, The Body of Christ.
The groups headed into the woods to complete three main activities: low ropes course, high ropes course and a service project. These projects were hands-on experiences to demonstrate how those in God’s kingdom are blessed with different gifts and talents, and by coming together any challenge can be overcome. |

| Oak Grove Lutheran School’s middle and high school students competed against each other in a CANstruction competition on Friday, November 20 in the Scheels Center for the Performing Arts, as a collection incentive for the Fill the Dome event. Each grade created a structure in twenty minutes with the non-perishable items their class has collected for Fill the Dome. Each class elected 8 students to build their structure. The classes were judged on creativity, team work and spirit.
Oak Grove’s junior class won the structure competition with their replica of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s football stadium. The juniors also collected the most items – 6,589 pounds of food!

| The Annual Dinner was held on November 8, 2009 in the Scheels Center for the Performing Arts. Robbie Quick was the master of ceremonies, Dr. Marilyn Guy was the keynote speaker, and the Concert Choir sung. The Living the Mission Award was presented to Monte and Nola Kjos for their generous support of Oak Grove through the years. It was a wonderful night of food and Grover fellowship! |
| impACT Teacher "Pie"-ing Fundraiser |
| Oak Grove's student-led impACT organization held a fundraiser at the beginning of November for a Montessori School in Guatemala. Students had a opportunity to buy chances to "pie" a teacher. The students raised $215 for the school and five teachers received a little pie in their face! |

| Oak Grove's elementary celebrated the season with the Fall Carnival on October 29. The elementary morphed from a school to a carnival, complete with games, prizes, and food. |

| Oak Grove welcomed families and friends to campus in July for a picnic and fellowship! The evening consisted of a delicious meal, games for children, carriage rides, and an opportunity to meet Interim President Dr. Marilyn Guy and see flood recovery efforts. |

| Oak Grove has made tremendous progress on its flood recovery efforts at the north campus. The campus grounds were looking beautiful by graduation on May 31. All sand bags have been removed from campus. Construction is going strong in Jackson Hall's lower level, with construction going to start soon in Benson Hall. | Sixty-two students graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran School on Sunday, May 31. The Commencement ceremony was held on Oak Grove’s north campus in the Scheels Center for the Performing Arts at 2 p.m. Joel Heitkamp, talk show host and operations manager at KFGO in Fargo, gave the Commencement address. The class also heard addresses by Valedictorian Ashley Jacobs and Salutatorian Breanne Steffan. Oak Grove’s class of 2009 garnered nearly $800,000 in college and university scholarships to date. Ninety-eight percent of the class plan to pursue degrees in higher education, with 60% of the students planning to attend a college or university in the Fargo-Moorhead area. --Photos by Jeanette Boelter |
| Flood 2009 - Back to School |
| On Wednesday, April 8, Oak Grove Lutheran School's middle and high school classes started again after the flood of 2009. Due to the damage to campus from the flood, classes had to be relocated to available classrooms at Fargo South High School Campus II. The day started with an all school meeting and an Easter chapel service. |
| Flood 2009 - Clean Up & Moving |
| On Friday, April 3, Oak Grove students and staff boxed up classrooms and supplies to haul to the relocation site - Fargo South High School Campus II. All of Benson Hall was boxed up for either a move to FSCII or to be stored. Teachers in Jackson Hall moved the items they would need for the remainder of the year. Middle and high school locker contents were also boxed and taken to the new location so students would have their materials on the first day back to school. Workers started removing sheetrock and other materials from the basement of Jackson Hall in preparation for flood recovery. |

| The process of clearing out damaged furniture, equipment, and supplies out of the buildings has begun. All items are being documented for FEMA reporting purposes. Concordia College students and professors were gracious with their time to move all books, magazines, and supplies out of the library and into the Scheels Center Auditorium. | By March 31, all of the water was mostly pumped out of Benson Hall. The basement was devasted by the waters of the Red River. There was not enough time to remove most of the contents of the basement. These photos document the aftermath of the flood of 2009 and the breach of Oak Grove's permanent dike to the north. |

| On Monday, March 30, the National Guard worked to fill a hole on the outside of the permanent flood wall to the north of Benson Hall with sandbags. Then, they worked to fill the portion between the wall and Benson Hall with sandbags, while also pumping water out of the building. Water has now been removed from the first floor of Benson Hall. Jackson Hall still has some water in the basement. The day was also spent preparing the campus for the winter storm. Media were able to see the campus as well.

| Flood 2009 - 3/29 Day the Dike Breached |
| Around 1:15 a.m. on March 29, 2009, Oak Grove Lutheran School experienced a breach in the permanent dike on the north side of campus. The breach caused Benson Hall and Jackson Hall to take on water. Due to the efforts prior to evacuation, the water was prevented from totally inundating campus. In the morning, it was found that the water had not continued into campus and the Scheels Center, Ellig Center/Gorder Gymnasium, and the Eid Center could be saved. Due to the efforts of the Army Corps of Engineers, the National Guard, Oak Grove staff, and Oak Grove community members, water was pumped out of the center of campus and prevented from traveling any further into campus. The National Guard precision placed 1,000 pound sandbags with a Blackhawk helicopter in between the dike and Benson Hall to attempt to fill the leak. They then also placed more sandbags in the flooded area. |
| Flood 2009 - Raising the Dikes |
| Due to the small margin for error, Oak Grove added sandbags to the dike between Benson Hall and the Eid Center on March 28, as well as added a foot to the steel wall to the north of Benson Hall. A soft spot was detected in the earthen dike to the south of campus, and the Army Corps of Engineers was quick to respond to reinforce the area. The river is holding and going down just a fraction, but City officials will not allow anyone to let their guard down quite yet. Oak Grove is continuing to monitor campus 24-7, pumping out seepage and watching dikes for any potential issues. |

| The Red River has risen to over 40 feet in Fargo, a record setting level. The photos in this gallery were taken on Friday, March 27. Dike Patrol Teams are monitoring seepage, in particular behind Benson Hall. The western contingency dike is in placed, finished on March 26 by a crew of volunteers. Lower levels of the campus have been cleaned out and contents moved to upper levels. The school is only allowing dike team members on campus until the water recedes. Please do not attempt to come to campus. |

| As another safeguard, school officials decided to construct a sandbag levee to protect the campus from the west. Oak Grove put out a call for volunteers and were amazed at the response. Thank you to all the volunteers for their help. All Oak Grove vehicles had been removed from campus and parking near campus is no longer allowed. |

| With Oak Grove dike patrol teams in action, Oak Grove is watching the river rise and manning pumps on campus. A small crisis was spotted and managed on Thursday, March 26, when water started to back up in locker rooms and restrooms in the Gorder Gym. Water was removed and the issue dealt with. Oak Grove has decided to build a secondary levee on the west side of campus to add another level of protection. Local and national television stations have been at Oak Grove to report was is happening. |

Staff continued to prep the campus for the rising water by taking down the chain-link fence by the football field, adding poly to the dike and other tasks. The water continues to rise and should be on the football field parking lot by the end of the day. |

| Oak Grove’s Theatre Department expanded this year to
include a high school play in the fall to go along with the annual spring musical. Romeo and Juliet was presented November 6-9. A tragic tale of star-crossed lovers, feuding families and timeless passion, Romeo and Juliet contains some of William Shakespeare’s most beautiful and lyrical love poetry. The play was presented in its original verse form. |

| Oak Grove Lutheran School held its Annual Donor Dinner on October 5 at the Scheels Center, an evening of gratitude and celebration for all that the faithful and generous donors do for the school. The Annual Donor Dinner program included a keynote address by Rev. Lynn R. Ronsberg, a member of Oak Grove’s Board of Regents. A Living the Mission Award was presented to Eleanor (Holte) Rensvold, class of 1938, for her faithful
support of Oak Grove throughout the years. A new recognition society, Oak Grove Legacy Partners, was introduced at the dinner. Oak Grove Legacy Partners
are those who have made a future commitment to the school through a planned gift. Oak Grove Legacy Partners receive a matted, framed print of the Bread of Life. Special music from Oak Grove’s Concert Choir and junior Mollie Lackmann rounded out the evening. |
| Homeless & Hungry 2008 |
| Oak Grove Lutheran School had the opportunity this fall to participate in Homeless & Hungry, a community event designed to raise awareness of issues of homelessness and hunger, not just nationally, but in the metro area. Guided by the words of Jesus, Homeless & Hungry strives to live out His call to take care of the hungry, thirsty, strangers, those in need of clothing, sick, and imprisoned in our midst (Matthew 25:31-46). More than 50 Grovers were in attendance either at Oak Grove or at their home churches. In addition to having students representing our elementary, middle, and high schools as participants, Oak Grove’s elementary school was involved in a needs drive to help collect items to donate to local shelters. Each event participant was challenged to fast for 30 hours, sleep outside in a cardboard box, raise at least $365 (enough money to feed a person for a year), and get at least ten prayer sponsors. |

| Oak Grove’s elementary school celebrated Grandparents and Special Guests Day on Friday, September 26. Students invited special people in their lives to see what Oak Grove Lutheran Elementary School is all about. More than 235 guests came to visit classrooms, tour the school, and join students for a time of fellowship and treats. Grandparents and Special guests were able to participate in art projects, learn new math techniques, see the Smart Board technology in action, and experience all aspects of
an elementary school day. Students also had the opportunity to interview their guests and learn new things about these significant people in their lives. |

| Oak Grove held Homecoming 2008 from September 8-14. This year’s theme was based on Matthew 13:23, “The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (New Living Translation) The week of festivties for students and alumni included Coronation, the Variety Show, Powder Puff Football Game, Variety Show, Football Game, Alumni Banquet Brunch and the Music Festival. |

| Forty-nine students graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran School on Sunday, May 25. President of the United Way, Judy Green, gave the Commencement address. The class also heard addresses by Valedictorian Allison Bock and Salutatorian Heather Zimmerman. The class chose John 12:46 as its theme verse: “I have come as a light into the world, that whosoever believeth in Me should not abide in darkness.” The class motto was, “Behind is infinite power, ahead is unlimited possibility.” The class chose the white lily as its flower and the class colors are maroon and white.

| Oak Grove's Board of Regents broke ground on the addition to the Darwin Gorder Gymnasium on May 22. Construction on the Wellness Center addition and gymnasium and classroom renovation began in May and will complete in the fall. |

| Oak Grove's Student Council sponsored "Paint Day" on May 20 for a way to relieve pre-test anxiety. All students were invited to slide down a slip-and-slide full of paint and get a little messy! |
| Phase III Campaign Announcement |
| Oak Grove unveiled its plans for Phase III of the Centennial Campaign - the Health and Wellness Initiative - on April 21. Oak Grove is launching a Health and Wellness Initiative which includes integrating innovative health and wellness programs into the curriculum. This summer, the school will also break ground on needed capital improvements, funded by the campaign, which include renovating the Darwin Gorder Gymnasium, and adding classrooms and a wellness center at the middle and high school, and adding classrooms, upgrading the kitchen and gymnasium at the elementary school.

| Oak Grove's third annual Spring Gala & Auction was a great success! The event raised more than $93,000 for Oak Grove's Annual Fund. Thank you to all who donated and attended. |
| Choir Tour 2008 |
| The Oak Grove 44-voice Concert Choir, directed by Aaron Zinter, took its annual tour in March and early April. The choir traveled to the southwest this year, visiting cities such as Mesa, Tucson, and Sun City. The group covered 3,919 miles on their 10-day tour, visiting 10 states, giving nine concerts and singing at two Sunday morning church services.

Lutheran Schools Week is a national week of recognition for Lutheran schools; this year’s theme was “Walking with Jesus.” Peder encouraged students to "taste and see." |

| Oak Grove held its Middle School Science Fair on March 13 in the Darwin Gorder Gymnasium. Student projects were chosen to proceed to the regional science fair by a panel of judges from NDSU. Oak Grove had 18 students move on to regions. |
| Sophmore Mission Trip Taco Feed |
| The Oak Grove sophmores held a Taco Feed in January as a fund raiser for their mission trip to Mexico. From March 24 to April 2, the Oak Grove sophomore class will travel on a mission trip to Mexico. This year, the sophomores and chaperones will be traveling to the Tecate, Mexico area (south and east of San Diego) to spend time with various communities along the California/Mexico border. The students will work with the organization called Transformational World Opportunities (TWO) to understand the roots of the poverty and injustice witnessed at the border, to renovate homes in Tijuana, and to work at the San Juan Bosco Orphanage in Tecate. |

| Oak Grove's middle school students made blankets for the homeless in the Fargo area on Friday, December 21, instead of having a gift exchange. The 124 students tied 75 fleece blankets. The blankets were blessed at chapel that morning and then given to the YWCA and Churches United for the Homeless. |

| Oak Grove Lutheran School’s high school International Students carved pumpkins with the Oak Grove kindergarten class taught by Allison Caspers on Friday, October 26 at the north campus. It was the first pumpkin carving experience for many of the International Students.
Oak Grove has 19 students studying at the school from four foreign countries this year, including China, Japan, Taiwan and Korea.

| Oak Grove Lutheran School’s Grover Club held its 32nd annual Pancake Supper on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 in the Eid Center. The menu included buttermilk, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes, along with sausage, juice and coffee. |
| Water Rocket Competition |
| Two Oak Grove classes competed in a water rocket competition on Friday, October 12 at 9:55 a.m. on the Oak Grove football field. The eighth grade science class competed against the junior/senior physics class to see who could launch a homemade water rocket further. Eighth grader Jared Jackson won the competition with a launch of 324 feet. It is the third year in a row that the eighth graders beat the physics class.

| Homeless & Hungry |
| About three dozen members of the Oak Grove community participated in the “Homeless and Hungry” event that was sponsored by First Lutheran Church on October 6 and 7. This youth-driven event was designed to raise awareness and promote compassion for those in our midst in the Fargo-Moorhead community who are often without life’s basic necessities. “Homeless & Hungry” ran from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening when participants helped serve a meal at local shelters. Participants were asked to fast for 30 hours, participate in the event from start to finish, sleep outside in cardboard boxes, raise a minimum of $365, and ask at least ten individuals to serve as prayer sponsors.

| Homecoming Music Festival & Scheels Cent |
| On Sunday, September 30, Oak Grove held the annual Music Festival and also dedicated the Scheels Center for the Performing Arts. During the event, a mass choir of the Elementary School Grover Choir Squad, Middle School Honor Choir and High School Concert Choir sung The Awakening. Afterward, a time capsule was set and sealed behind a 2007 granite cornerstone. |
| Homecoming Dress Up Days |
| To make Homecoming Week fun in classes, Oak Grove's Student Council sponsored dress up days. Students with the best costumes won prizes. |
| Homecoming Coronation |
| Oak Grove crowned its Homecoming King and Queen in a coronation ceremony on Monday, September 24 in the Scheels Center. Seniors Zachary Frappier and Sidney Sather were crowned King and Queen at the ceremony. |
| See You at the Pole |
| Oak Grove participated in See You at the Pole, a national event for students to gather at the flag pole to pray, on Wednesday, September 26. See You at the Pole events were held at the north and south campus. Students pray at the flag pole with administrators and teachers, with the group growing in the morning as students arrive for school. |
| Football Field Makeover |
| The Grover football field was wiped out in the summer flood of 2007. Since the water stayed on the field for quite some time, all the grass was killed with no chance of regrowing. While Oak Grove weighed out the options for the 2007 season, the best and most cost efficient option was to sod the field using volunteer labor. The following photos chronicle the makeover of the field, which also received new goal posts, courtesy of anonymous donors. The field will be ready for play by the first home football game. |
