Student Leaders from Oak Grove, as well as from other area schools, are once again coordinating a metro wide food drive – Fill the Dome – to take place November 25 in the FargoDome. The goal this year is to cover the floor of the dome with over 50,000 pounds of food and to raise over $50,000 for the food banks and area shelters. This student led initiative will once again make a positive impact on hunger issues in our community.
“North Dakota only has around 650,000 people in the state. We think it is very tangible and achievable for everyone to have food and to not go hungry throughout their day,” says Senior Michael VandeVoort, student council president.
“The passion, dedication, networking and organizational abilities of these young people has been impressive and I consider myself fortunate to experience it,” says Morgan Forness, high school principal.
Oak Grove is currently collecting canned and nonperishable items for the event. If you have a desire to be a part of the student led event, please bring items to the school.
As a collection incentive, Oak Grove will hold a CANstruction competition amongst grades six through 12 on November 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the Scheels Center. Each grade will create a structure with the items their classmates have collected. The classes will be judged on creativity, team work and spirit. All are welcome to campus to be a part of the event.
