Below is the latest update from Oak Grove Lutheran School on the re-opening plan for Fall 2020. Please bear in mind that this plan is not finalized and is subject to amendments. Our administration, faculty, staff, and Board of Regents are continuing work and will communicate with the Oak Grove community regularly in the coming weeks.

Good Afternoon,

What a week it has been at Oak Grove!  We have finally been able to start moving from the hypothetical thinking of May, June, and half of July, and begin moving into the concrete.  This week, meetings were held with our teachers in each of the re-opening age/grade level units (ELC, K-1, 2-5, 6-8, & 9-12) and with our executive committee from the Board of Regents.  We are developing and will share with you, a more thoroughly developed plan in the coming weeks.   Until then, we are excited to share with you some of our plans for the fall.

We are excited to say that Oak Grove K-12 is offering both face-to-face and an online option for this school year for our kids.  We believe this will be helpful to many people.  Please read on to find out more about the plans we have.  This is by no means a completed plan, but we DO want you to see what we’re thinking.  Please be looking for more information next week, including surveys.

Across the entirety of Oak Grove Lutheran School

School Start Date – Moved back one week

  • First Day of School for K-12 is now August 27, 2020; First Day of ECL is now August 31.
  • Moving start date back one week allows our teachers added time to prepare for the challenges of teaching in a pandemic and make adjustments to delivery based on parent survey feedback.  Furthermore, the delayed start provides the opportunity for our elementary teachers to meet individually with families/students to begin building relationships.
  • No Back to School Nights.  Look for further information on a new plan for those.

In-Person Instruction Option

  • Relationships and Community are at the heart of Oak Grove
  • It is our plan to provide safe, all day, in-person instruction, to all students ELC-12 to the greatest extent possible
  • As such, in-person, on campus instruction is available to all Oak Grove students who choose in-person instruction
  • Social Distancing and Masks will be utilized by both staff and students (in grade level appropriate areas)

Hybrid Online Synchronous Instruction Option

  • We know some students/families have embraced online learning
  • We know some students/families have underlying health conditions that make online learning more appealing
  • We know some students/families are uncomfortable with the idea of school all day, every day, for all students
  • As a result, a hybrid online synchronous instruction option is available to our students
  • Students choosing to enroll in our hybrid online synchronous academy must do so for all classes a semester at a time
  • A survey gathering data on the interest level for our hybrid online synchronous academy will be sent out shortly.  Please complete the survey as soon as possible.  This information will help us add detail to our plan as the school year approaches

Eliminate versus Mitigate

  • We cannot eliminate the risks associated with the Covid19 Pandemic
  • We CAN implement practices to mitigate the risks associated with the Covid19 Pandemic
    • Hand Washing
    • Social Distancing
    • Mask Wearing
  • Plans, Protocols, and Procedures have been, and are being, developed to mitigate the risks associated with the Covid19 Pandemic
