Hello friends and family of Oak Grove,
My name is Aspyn Kjos, and as I begin my senior year, I have found myself looking back on the road that brought me here. From my early years at Oak Grove to currently serving as Student Body President, I am grateful to say that I have been shaped by a community, or what I like to call a family, that has supported and challenged me in my everyday life.
I first joined Oak Grove in 2011 for their pre-school program, and it quickly became more than just a school. I now see it as a second home with people that have a lot of love to give. My dad is an Oak Grove alumnus, so I am very fortunate to grow up and hear the stories of his time here, and it is a blessing that I am now making my own memories in the same place. Over the years, I have participated in multiple athletics, theater, NHS, PaY, leadership councils, and each experience has taught me the value of teamwork, faith, and perseverance.
When I consider my time here, I remember three verses that have guided me: “Even if no one else chooses us, God has chosen us” (Ephesians 1:11). “Even if no one else seems to notice us, God sees us” (Psalm 33:18). “Even if we feel like we’re all alone, God is with us” (Psalm 23:4). These are all truths that have carried me through all sorts of challenges in high school. As I think about these verses, I have been given confidence to step into large leadership roles and friendships knowing that we all are guided by God. Oak Grove has helped me live out these truths daily when I am surrounded by classmates and teachers who encourage me in my faith.
One of my favorite memories at Oak Grove is not one single moment, but the way our teachers continue to show up for us. As someone who has been active in sports, I have faced multiple injuries throughout the years. Even in those hard times, my teachers never stopped encouraging me. They would celebrate with me when I would return to the court, and they cheered loudly when our volleyball team made it to regionals and state. What makes Oak Grove so special is that our teachers form genuine relationships with students. They will check in asking how games or practices went, and even remind us how proud they are when we do great. Their support has shown me what it looks like to be in a community that truly cares about others.
Oak Grove matters to me because it is a place where students can grow not only academically, but also spiritually and personally. Prayers and the generosity of people like you make experiences like mine possible. I would like to thank you all for the help and dedication that have guided all Oak Grove students and me on this journey. Your kindness is making a difference that will last far beyond our school years. With your support, we can experience God’s love with faithful people creating memories that will last a lifetime.
With Appreciation,

Aspyn Kjos
