Hunter Pinke Shares His Story at Oak Grove

Middle & high school students heard from athlete and speaker Hunter Pinke earlier this month!

A lifelong athlete and devout Christian, Hunter was injured while on a ski trip in 2019. A collision with another skiier left him with a broken back and severe spinal injuries, resulting in paralysis from the chest down.

His time in the hospital and the months of recovery that followed left him with a new perspective: there are no bad days. The glass isn’t half empty, it isn’t even half full. He’s just glad he has a glass.

Hunter connected with students and spoke about faith, resilience, and looking at things differently when overcoming obstacles. He shared how God has been with him and impacted his life’s journey, even when things didn’t go as expected. Students walked away with new perspective, some sticking around to talk with Hunter after he shared his story.

Middle school students later reflected on Hunter’s story in class.

I learned that you should look at life with gratitude, and if you see anyone alone, try to go out of your comfort zone.

I thought it was inspiring coming from someone who was living an awesome life and had everything, though it turned bad very quickly. But instead of giving up and only having bad days, he kept going, leaned on other people and saw the positive side rather than the negative."

Thank you to the Grover Athletic Club for hosting, and thank you to Hunter, for sharing your morning with us!
