John Ylvisaker graduated from Oak Grove in 1955. With the belief that “music is the heartbeat of God,” John’s creativity and early sense of call led him to become the church’s troubadour. His compositions and arrangements convey the Gospel in clear, understandable language and in a wide range of musical styles and expressions. John’s familiarity with folk, country, rock, blues, classical, rap and grunge is extremely unique. He blazed a trail for people of all ages to express their faith and worship God in new and innovative ways. Writer of more than 1000 songs, John is best known for “I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry.”
