Darwin Gorder graduated from Oak Grove in 1957. A successful student-athlete at Concordia College, he graduated in 1961 with a major in history and a minor in physical education; he later received the Concordia College Alumni Achievement Award. Darwin earned his master’s degree from NDSU in 1962 before returning to Oak Grove to teach social studies and coach, leading the undefeated 1969 boys’ basketball team to the North Dakota State Class B Championship. Because of his faithful service as teacher, coach and interim president, Darwin is often referred to as “Mr. Oak Grove” by alumni and friends.
