Calmer Elness is credited with establishing the Christian emphasis and tradition of Oak Grove’s choir and band programs. Calmer proved he was a superior director, as students felt it an honor to be a member of his choir. His legacy remains alive today through the excellence of the Oak Grove music program. Humble and dignified, yet quick-witted and funny, Calmer personified the word “professional.” A master woodworker, he also taught industrial arts and is responsible for many fine pieces of furniture and desk tops used at Oak Grove through the years.
