After serving in the Army during World War II, Chuck Petersen enrolled at Valley City State University and graduated in 1950. A biology, chemistry and physical education teacher, he introduced the sport of cross country to North Dakota. Chuck developed a successful track program while also coaching basketball and football and serving as the school’s athletic director. At Mankato State University, he taught health and coached 36 All-American athletes, leading three students to NCAA national championships in track during a career that spanned 26 years. Chuck is a member of the Mankato Hall of Fame, as well as the NIC and the NCC Conference Halls of Fame.
