An honor student, Mary (Tennefos) Shoji was the first All-State girls’ basketball player at Oak Grove and a member of the 21 -1 1979 state tournament team. Mary went on to play Division I basketball at the University of Hawaii, where the majored in secondary education and minored in health, later earning her master’s degree in education administration. A longtime educator, Mary served as dean for four years, taught physical education and coached multiple sports at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. In the community she has tutored children, worked with the homeless, participated in city cleanup projects and coached numerous youth leagues.
