Rick Deegan was very active and successful in athletics during his time as a student at Oak Grove and was captain and co-captain of the football, basketball, and track teams. At graduation, Rick received the “Skill, Perserverance and Leadership” award. He is thankful for the part that Oak Grove played in his life and credits his experience for shaping him into the person he is today. After graduation, Rick served honorably in the U.S. Army for two years. He returned to enroll at Valley City State where he continued his basketball career. Rick married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Anderson, and the pair made their home in Paynesville MN where Rick taught and coached for 31 years.
