Steve Carnal joined Oak Grove’s faculty in 1980 and retired in 2014 after 34 years of teaching. Steve is especially proud of his years in the middle school classroom, as well as starting the Close Up government class. Steve served as the head boys’ basketball coach for 28 years and led the 2000 team to a perfect 28-0 championship season. During his tenure, Steve’s Grover teams amassed 559 wins with 12 district championships, 22 regional tournament appearances, and three regional titles. Steve reflects on his time at Oak Grove fondly, “I have been blessed to have been part of this wonderful institution for so long. Oak Grove is an amazing school where God’s hand douches the Grover family each day.” Steve and his wife, Ruth, live in Fargo and have three children: Nelson, Juan, and Sandra, and six grandchildren.
